Back Painting
Painted glass can be used in many different applications, from wall cladding, kitchen splash backs to specialist structural glazing to hide fixings. A specialist, cured paint is applied to the rear surface of the glass in two stages, in a technique sometimes known as ‘Back Painting,’ creating a solid opaque colour finish to the glass.
The colours available for use in back painting are wide, including any RAL colour. Colour matching to Pantone and Dulux colours are also possible.
Back Painting Application
The UV stable paint in the chosen colour is applied in even thickness to the rear surface of the glass using specialist spray techniques. A second coat in black is then also applied to create an opaque glass finish. Unlike coloured interlayers, no light will then pass through the glass making painted glass perfect for cladding. Once the desired painting has been sprayed, the paint is then cured to the glass under heat.
Back painting can be applied to annealed, toughened or heat strengthened glass at varying thicknesses to be used in various settings. The paint used is extremely durable being resistant to moisture and heat resistant up to 400 degrees C.
