Kiln Formed Glass

Kiln Formed Glass

When you want a textured glass surface, either to create a privacy finish or for a purely decorative effect, London Architectural Glass can provide kiln formed or cast glass panels designed to either stock or bespoke textured patterns.

Patterns are embedded into one or two surfaces of the glass using kiln ovens with patterned fire boards in the base. Also known as ‘Slump Cast Glass’, the glass panels are heated to a slightly molten state to allow the glass to slump into the pattern of the board below then cooled evenly at a steady pace. This whole process can take 10-14 hours depending on the thickness of the glass panel to be patterned.

With access to large kiln ovens, London Architectural Glass can create patterns into extremely large glass panels of up to 18 meters squared for use in architectural glass installations, which can be toughened or laminated post design to create a safety glass unit.

Bespoke or Patterned Designs

If you require a specific or bespoke pattern or design applied into the surface of the glass, we can provide the means to design this to your purpose. Intricate patterns or thinner glass panel designs can be scored, etched or cut into a fire board. Larger patterns or designs into thicker glass panels can be created on a mould using plaster, sand and specialised chemicals.
