Switchable
Privacy Glass
Switchable privacy glass allows for the control of the transparency of glass panels. The liquid crystal film laminated within the glass panel is electrically operated. When a conductive charge is passed through the laminated glass film, all of the liquid crystals within are charged and are orientated in the same direction. This change in the internal film allows the possibility of vision through the normally translucent glass face.
The glass used to construct a switchable privacy glass unit will depend on the specification required but annealed, heat strengthened and toughened glass can be used to create these laminated glass panels.
Taking Privacy To The Next Level
With large panel sizes available, privacy glass can be used on a whole range of different applications, both internally and externally. Internal screens can be used to create private spaces within open plan offices or bedrooms and using the glass within roofs, windows or doors can stop invasive eyes from peering into a home or extension. The glass can also be used for back projection of images, slide shows or TV screens in its translucent state.
As a well-established and successful technical glass solution, privacy glass can be manipulated in several ways for a more personal appearance. It can be installed into curved units and be mixed with coloured interlayers. Fading controls can also be supplied for a more gradual change from transparent to translucent.
The electrical glass panel can be integrated with fire rated glass for areas or screens that require a fire rating. The laminated glass panel can be used as one of the glass panels on double or triple-glazed units for use on external, thermally efficient glass installations or installed into frames for use in opening windows and doors.
