Sandblasted Glass
Sandblasting creates a rougher translucent or ‘cloudy’ appearance to the surface of glass, which can either be used for decorative purposes, privacy or to create anti-slip surfaces.
To create the translucent appearance, aluminium oxide is blasted at the glass surface at high pressure within a specialised sandblasting booth. This abrasive material peppers the top surface of the glass creating a rougher finish and cloudy appearance.
Patterns, logos or images can be sandblasted into a panel of glass for a decorative effect. The design required is produced on a cut out vinyl sheet, which is applied to the clear glass surface. The area where a sandblasted design is wanted is removed from the vinyl and then the glass is sandblasted.
Once finished, the rest of the vinyl is removed leaving the sandblasted design in a panel of clear glass.
Perfect For Commercial Use
This process is used regularly to apply house numbers or names to glass used in entrance ways or to apply a logo to glazing used in a commercial front.
Sandblasting still allows lots of natural light to pass through the surface of the glass and creates a diffused light design. These rougher glass surfaces can be used as an anti-slip surface for walk on glass installations.
Sandblasting can be applied to annealed, toughened, heat strengthening and laminated glass and once sandblasted, the glass can then be installed into a double or triple glazed unit.
